I’m not offended by all the dumb-blonde jokes because I know that I’m not dumb. I also know I’m not blonde.

036/365 - Dear Self,

This morning I woke up with the imprint of the remont control on my stomach. Hot, right? I can’t help it. It just comes to me naturally.

So I’m in kind of a rut. After being sick for almost two months straight and living in jeans and tshirts (which is actually what I wear when I’m NOT sick but whatever) and I haven’t done anything with my hair except put in into ponytails and my entire MAC obsession sat there in the bathroom untouched and unloved and I am SO UNWORTHY!!!!

Anyway, I’m ready for a change. I’ve put on makeup EVERY DAY THIS WEEK. I even did a fantastic smokey eye for work today that had FIVE shades of eyeshadow and EYELINER! Do you hear that? That’s the devil trying to melt the ice forming in Hell. Somebody get that man some salt!

Bored Anticipation

So here is where I ask the internet for help. 99.9999% of the time my hair looks like that first picture. I spend stupid amounts of money on shampoos and conditioners and serums and balms to make it healthy and shiny and it is that stuff… but that’s all it is. I need change.

I conned the manger at Walgreens to sell me a really nice set of curlers for half of what they are supposed to cost and have played them for the last two nights. The second picture is one of the outcomes. It looks great, right? The problem is that about 30 minutes later it looked like picture #1 again. It frustrates the hell out of me.

So girls, I need your help. Tips, tricks, magical potions, whatever! What are you hair secrets? How in the hell do you get those curls to hang around past the appetizers?

  1. I use ENJOY all of there products, i too have a hard time keeping a curl in and with there stuff, i keep one in pretty good, plus there stuff is really good for your hair. i love there hair lotion,

  2. Dear Daughter,

Face it, you have my hair genes. The only way I’ve ever been able to keep my hair curled (yes I used to do that) is to get your grandmother to give me a permanent. Then, of course, it was way to curly (read afro!) Why is it that everyone that has straight hair wants curly hair (you and me) and everyone that has curly hair wants theirs to be straight (Nana).

Get over it. You will suffer a lot less disappointment.

  3. My hair can never keep a curl which is probably why it’s short lol but someone once told me to hairspray the hair before i set it with a curler and that should make it last for a little longer. Im not sure if that will work but it’s worth a shot.

  4. Oh man, my hair used to be straight as a pin. Anytime I tried curling it, it’d just fall as soon as it cooled off. No amount of hairspray would hold it. My hair is a lot wavier and crazier now but nothing that looks good. It’s just kind of crazy. And frizzy.

Nowadays, if I want to go wavy, I shower, let my hair air-dry a little bit, then run some Thermasilk mousse through it. I blow-dry it then curl the ends with a regular old hot iron. The mousse isn’t too crunchy or stiff and it holds the curl perfectly. Plus? The next day, my hair still has enough curl in it to look good!

  5. Hhmmm… that is strange. Is your hair really thick? Or thin? My hair is in between and I use a thin curling iron and it works really well AND keeps my hair curly for at least the day. Also, when the curlers are in, you should try spraying them with a little hairspray to keep the curls tight..

  6. Dad,

But… but… but… Aunt Carol’s hair curls! REALLY well actually. And Nonnie’s hair curled! There has to be a way!

    Izzy & steen,

I used to run mousse through it before I’d blow dry then spray before I curl it but I have tried a few recently with no luck. I’ll pick up some Thermasilk and give it a try.

My hair is VERY VERY VERY thick. Not only do I have a WHOLE CRAP TON of it but the individual strands themselves are think and heavy. I’ve actually gotten perms before and the weight of my hair would pull the top five or so inches of my hair straight in less than a week. So it always looked like I had three months of growth.

  7. I think you have to go with your dad… you have Reid hair. Have you seen Katie’s hair? Or Jarrett’s? Mine will hold a curl a little bit longer, but it’s still not great. It’s definitely flat by the end of the night. According to the lady who did my hair for the wedding I have a lot of hair, but it’s fine, so it doesnt take as well. So I’m not sure what that means for your hair since you seem to have the opposite problem…
