If you don’t want to do something, one excuse is as good as another.

*deep breath*

I deactivated Intense Debate. It hurt my heart a little to do it because all the folks there have been REALLY AWESOME with my constant desire to FIX THIS! AND NOW THAT! But aflux’s load times with ID deactivated is MUCH better. Much.

Also, it was causing about 111 validation errors and apparently that’s like, really, really important to some anonymous people on the internet. *nods*

Unfortunately, the process to import all those comments back into the WordPress database via the control panel is causing a memory error and until I can call my host to have that fixed, they have all disappeared. If I get time I’ll do it today but I just wanted to let you all know I haven’t deleted you! Just kinda hidden you in the back of a closet till I can find the time to organize you all neatly again.

I also got rid if IZEA’s ad over there *points right*. It was a “test ad” that they used to create some data points. I will miss it though because it was bringing in some decent money but, meh. It was causing validation errors also, and again, VERY IMPORTANT to be XHTML compliant if the original theme developer puts a link there!

And yeah, I need to add some kind of styling to the tweets and delicious feeds but they’ve taken a pretty big back seat to all the damn house drama. I’ve neglected pretty much every online project and community over the last few weeks (excluding Twitter of course, I’m busy, not DEAD).

By the way, did I mention?!

WE ARE HOMEOWNERS! We got keys yesterday and found a reason to get over to the house last night and took some clothes and food over with us. There is SO MUCH I want to write about the process of buying our first home. SO. FUCKING. MUCH. But today I need to just concentrate on getting work done, then getting home to pack the last of the stuff up before the movers come tomorrow.

Happy Wednesday, all!

  1. Yeah! It is yours.

I know what a hassle buying a house can be (I’ve purchased a number of them). However, you are now paying yourself each month instead of a landlord! Doesn’t seem significant now though overtime your net worth will change dramatically.

Moving sucks now matter when or how you go about it. We all have more stuff than we really need, even when we clean it out during a move, so packing is never fun. Unpacking is even worse. Where to put it… In the end though, when you have finished and made the new place yours, there is satisfaction and the contentment of knowing that it is your home.

  2. I’m kind of insane and LOVE the unpaking part! Well, at least the first few days. Those last lingering boxes that nobody wants to open are a drag.

We are SO SO SO SO SO SO thankful for EVERYTHING that you guys did. There is simply no way we’d have our own house if not for you guys. 🙂

  3. Anna, I’m pretty bummed that you removed IntenseDebate. When we examined your load time and validation issues we determined that the script ecommstats.s3.amazonaws.com/stat2.js was the culprit and not IntenseDebate.

You had mentioned that you were going to look into that ad – did anything come of that? If it wasn’t solely that script but rather it’s interaction with IntenseDebate that was causing the issue, then that’s something that we would absolutely look to solve. Please let me know.

Also please email me at support@intensedebate.com and we’ll resolve your export issue.

    Kind regards,
    Michael

  4. Load times were actually being effected by several factors. When I removed the ad, disabled twitter and delicious and any other plugins, it was till taking a bit for the comment link to load.

The validation issue is ID for sure. When dissabled right now the errors go from 113 down to 12. I did a quick search and it looks like other people hare having the same problem with validation. The problem is that the ampersand “&” is having to be used instead of the XHTML valid “& a m p ;” (minus spaces) which causes W3 to become upset.

I really mean it when I say it’s absolutely NOT the developers that have lead me to disable it. You all have been SO patient and SO on top of things but I think it’s still in kind of a beta stage and I’m SO BUSY right now and just don’t have the time to track issues and keep on top of it.

  5. I liked ID for a bit but now I’m just like meh, I like my regular comments a bit more. I’m so glad everything with the house is now settled. 🙂

  6. Being a homeowner is nothing compared to having a valid site. Nothing, I tell you. WHOO HOO FOR XHTML COMPLIANCE.

Kidding, of course. Congratulations!!! I’m so excited for you and Ben and Cassidy! Speaking of Cass, is she excited? You guys gonna let her decorate her new bedroom however she wants? 🙂

  7. I’m excited and jealous all at the same time! I envy your super cute new house man!!!!! Although, packing and moving kinda suck don’t they?

I have to admit, I hated the intense debate. It was slow, it never saved my info, and I just didn’t like it. I’m glad you switched.

  8. You’re a homeowner! Congratu… wait. You weren’t valid? YOU WEREN’T VALID! Goddamn you, Anna! You ruined the internet! *sniffles* And I called you friend.

  9. @Jenn: Thanks! Cassidy is pretty excited. I’m going to let her decorate WITHIN REASON. She’ll still have most of her old furniture because we can’t afford to upgrade right now but I told her that she can help pick out paint colors and help paint and stuff. We also let her pick which of the two rooms she wanted.

@Ranee: OMG WE MOVE TODAY. Well, BEN is there with the movers, I’m at work. We were up till 1:00AM doing all the last minute stuff. Taking beds and computer desks apart, packing up PCs, the last of the dishes we had been using. I’m EXHAUSTED but I get to go home to my NEW HOUSE after work today! 🙂

  10. @Elyse: hahaha I’m STILL NOT VALID! I fixed most of the errors but, WHATEVER, my site isn’t valid. OKAY THERE I SAID IT I’M A FAILURE.

    *hangs head in shame*

    ;p
